How to read a prescription?
- OD / OS
- Right (oculus dexter) and left (oculus sinister) eye. A prescription always lists them separately.
- SPH (PWR)
- Spherical power in dioptres: “−” for short-sightedness, “+” for long-sightedness.
- CYL / AX
- Cylinder and axis – for toric (astigmatism) lenses only. If your prescription has none, leave them empty.
- BC
- Base curve (mm) – the curvature of the lens. Choose the one your eye care specialist prescribed.
- DIA
- Lens diameter (mm). Usually one per model.
- ADD
- Reading addition – for multifocal lenses only.
